Why I almost support Obama

New York Times Op-Ed columnist David Brooks nailed Barack Obama's public persona.

I've been having similar thoughts, but he catches most of them so I'll be lazy. It's not the first time Brooks has done it.

If you read people who are willing to look behind the curtain without getting into the doctrinaire 'left' or 'right' talking points, tales of people who "think" Obama agrees with them appear with surprising regularity.

That would include me.

I suck at this link think. Google Matt Taibbi on David Brooks.

Your link

Taibbi refers to Onward Cautious Soldiers

Brooks' ideas on foreign policy, particularly the Middle East and most particularly Iran and Iraq are tragicomic. Iran's threat is a direct result of the type of meddling we're trying in Iraq. You can't install a 'friendly' government at the point of a gun. Point to Obama; he seems to get it.

He gets style points on many other issues. I agree with Brooks.

Taibbi's rant also cites The Liberal Inquisition. Brooks is pretty close here too. I don't like Lieberman, but it's just because of the war. Taibbi parses 'purge' and 'fundamentalism' as "terms obviously associated with communism and Islamic terrorism". Read the piece; that's not how they're used.

I suggest you follow Taibbi's advice when reading his column: "Let's be clear about what we're dealing with here. These people are professional communicators."
