The Britney trap

It looks like John McCain is hooked on getting rock star treatment again.

The aging fighter pilot used to obsess about Barack Obama's celebrity treatment. 'Kids these days are superficial,' he'd petulantly tell the hundreds folding-chaired into his town halls, coming off more like a jealous faded beauty in smeared make-up than a Presidential candidate.

What a difference a week makes. With Sarah Palin drawing the numbers he couldn't, he keeps postponing the date when they'll go their separate ways on the campaign trail.

He's no longer playing second fiddle to Obama, but there's a real possibility that he'll be in the third chair-- with Obama and Palin drawing more people. What a dilemma for his handlers.

McCain (did I tell you again he was a POW?) has already folded the 'more foreign experience' hand, what's next?

Obama ran for the state legislature and he got elected, and nearly 130 times he couldn't make a decision. he couldn't figure out to vote yes or no. It was too tough. He voted "present"...for president of the U.S.,it's not good enough to be present. You have to make a decision". Rudy Giuliani quote.

Ken, voting "present" is a cowardly way to not ruffle feathers is his own states legislature. Just an excuse to not take a stand on an issue. Obama has no balls, hopefully Biden does.

Can't disagree about Obama voting 'present', in fact his less-than-transparent voting record was one of the reasons I was driven to the murky depths of agreeing with David Brooks awhile back. That's not about balls, it's not wanting to get 'pinned' on an issue.

But that's another subject.

McCain (did I tell you he was a POW?), has abandoned content and is going for style points with classic thuggish character assassination thrown in. He has to borrow the style.

Campaigning yes, but both candidates have also missed some votes on purpose. I didn't want to run this off the top of my pink pumpkin head, but here's some stats:

According to a Washington Post database, McCain has missed 63.8 percent of the Senate's votes while running for president the past two years.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama missed 45.5 percent of Senate votes while Sen. Joe Biden, who ran unsuccessfully for president and is now the vice presidential nominee, missed 30.4 percent of the votes.

Some Rovian comedy:

Following Iran’s missile tests this week, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) slammed Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-IL) position on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, declaring, “This is the same organization that I voted to condemn as a terrorist organization when an amendment was on the floor of the United States Senate. Senator Obama refused to vote.” CNN’s Political Ticker notes a flaw with McCain’s attack:

The problem with the critique? McCain also missed that vote on the Kyl-Lieberman amendment on September 26, 2007. Records show that Obama was in New Hampshire and McCain was in New York instead of being in the Senate chamber for the vote in question.
