B-2 crash

I was just about to get away from the computer when I saw this one: B-2 stealth bomber crashes on Guam. (AP)

Woa. There goes a quick billion bucks. At least the pilots are reportedly okay. I hope it's not their fault; that would be quite a payroll deduction.

Wow.. interesting news. I remember turning into the Micronesia Mall about a year ago when two were coming in for a landing.. I'd never seen anything like them and it was quite awesome.

Never seen one.

The flying wing is supposed to be an inherently unstable design, only possible to do now because of computerization.

I remember when they flew over Saipan on their way to restationing on Guam. I saw them overhead from San Vicente. They created the loudest sonic boom that I'd ever heard. In fact, we made CNN and Foxnews that same day.. "complaints filed by Saipan residents over stealth bomber sonic booms".. or something like that. Anyways, the Airforce issued an apology.

I believe that they are so unstable, and so dependent on the computer system, that the system is redundant four times over. So if computer one, two or three go out.. number four can still make the continuous adjustments necessary to keep the craft stable.

Stealthy sonic booms?

I wonder how much a toilet seat costs on one of those puppies.

Yup.. you break the speed of sound, it doesn't matter what your in.. there's going to be a boom.

As Sen. Dirkson said "A billion here and a billion there.......".

I first saw them back in the 90s at an airbase only airshow. Pretty spectacular.

It would be fun to fly one. Excuse me sir. could I rent that #12 unit over there for a couple hours jaunt up to the Northern Islands? $8 million an hour? No problem.
